its lazy writing, your making something that already happened to the character happen to him again
so he's gonna get imprisoned in the plastic cell twice in the same movie and will have to escape somehow twice

He wont be in the plastic cell becasue in the 70s they dont know how to imprison him ... he obviously "volunteers" .... the same way he "volunteered" in X3... with the way he escaped it would be assumed that he could have done that at any time he wanted....

Then we go back to the 70s .... to either before the plastic cell, or they break him out ...
