Buy based on games/ppl you play with. I bought Xbox one for the controller. I like fps games and controller felt better in my hand

Xb1 if you want a more media center type experience (multitasking, hdmi in, play video and music files from hdd)

Ps4 if you want some more gaming related features (remote play, share play, psnow etc)

It doesn't even really matter what system you get at the moment.

I haven't even cut my PS4 on in over a month but most my friends are on XB1.

Whichever system you have more people to play with. I prefer XB1 but if you're not into the media shyt then get a PS4
