a 'single library' on a Windows machine is just a bunch of shortcuts. not that different from the shortcut icons for games I own from different storefronts on my desktop, just more 'handheld friendly'

my reasons for doubting all this have to do with MS making a device that could potentially use none of their services. their digital storefront, and charging for online/subscription services, is their money maker. and if the solution is some kind of locked down PC, than that's just another console

maybe I'm wrong. time will tell. if MS moves away from charging for online, it will be interesting to see how Sony and Nintendo react
I don’t know how licensing would work, but maybe they could do something like the store is “automatic” like games that are available on xbox always come from the xbox store, games that aren’t come from steam.

Nintendo and PC exists.

nikkaz had 20 years to get their shyt together. Stupidity has sunk many companies.

YALL care about Nintendo, the only reason they not a threat or on Sony Stans radar is because Xbox exist.

But moment Xbox hypothetically dies….. yall would focus on Nintendo and attempt to destroy them too.

No one cares about PC

aint no yall. :mjlol:

this faux concern about a Sony console monopoly. Meanwhile Nintendo has had handhelds on lock forever and not a peep.

blaming Sony for Xbox leadership incompetence. :mjlol:

I share similar sentimonies. I don't see MS with its arm stretched out to get an Xbox handheld to have none of its services used, losing on the sales cuts, especially at the current handheld price tag. They make money off the OS and licensing, but there's a good enough chance no one uses the Xbox oriented stuff... :yeshrug:

...unless there's something to the OS we don't know yet. :leon:

I don’t know how licensing would work, but maybe they could do something like the store is “automatic” like games that are available on xbox always come from the xbox store, games that aren’t come from steam.

At best they link accounts and MS does the heavy lifting in the OS and Xbox app to keep Steam in the background. Otherwise, they're handcuffed by Steam funnily enough. Valve will not do them the solid and publish an UWP variant, so any Steam stuff will have to take on Steam entirely if you want to use it.

That's what they're gonna show us with this new "Xbox Experience" app on the ROG devices.

Probably things like shared friends list and achievements by launcher.
you can already link your Steam account to the Xbox app on PC. it mentions sharing friends, but I'm not sure what else it does

but all these things are just conveniences, that save you a few clicks, and/or make it easier to navigate with a controller. it doesn't really fundamentally change how these stores work

I don't think Valve would throw them a bone like that

I mean obviously putting these storefronts on console is a big deal, it's going to allow for PS and PC games to be played on a Xbox branded next gen console, but ultimately, yeah its just QoL for PC and handheld since theyre already getting these games.

I assume all Xbox "official" hardware will just have a windows gaming OS and a Xbox console OS, I'd guess Xbox games can install run or launch from either OS. While everything else would launch the windows 11 gaming OS and launch from that storefront.

So yeah like you said a bunch of "shortcuts" basically lol.

Don’t know why they wouldn’t.

They should want their store on as many devices as possible.

Don’t see any downside to them allowing something like this to work.

I think it will be more difficult getting publishers to be ok with one copy of their game working across so many different platforms.

I think it's still going to matter what storefront you buy it from, if you want the console vs over the PC version better buy it from steam.

If you want the PC crowd over the console crowd for a competitive game better buy it on steam, epic or windows.

So truthfully I'd think steam and epic would only really stand to gain from this, if it works anything like this.

The stores will compete on consumer rights and benefits, not what piece of hardware they are on.

Xbox games will offer play anywhere, cloud, etc.

Consumers will be the winners in all this.

Console warriors all fukked up :wow:

:mjlol: What are bruhs arguing about now? Didn’t Phil already confirmed some months back. That the Xbox hardware is here to stay for hardcore fans. So them releasing another console next gen isn’t surprising. Seems like it’s Microsoft’s take on a Steam Machine/Box.

Xbox CEO Phil Spencer emphasized that Xbox is determined to win by leveraging the power of its hardware. He stated that the company's focus is on creating innovative hardware that can win over gamers through superior performance, rather than relying solely on exclusive games. Spencer explained that by making games like Minecraft and Fortnite available across platforms, Xbox aims to win the trust of players everywhere. Ultimately, he reiterated that hardware is at the heart of Xbox's strategy to win in the competitive gaming market and continue achieving success.
