they spend more on racing wheels and such. it's just that for the most part these things are kind of limited on consoles. with PC's you can get a mouse for $10 or $200

Yeah, console gamers aren't used to $100 mouses and $140 mechanical keyboards. PC gaming has a lot of high tech peripherals.

the problem isn't that the controller cost $150. It's that a normal Xbox One controller can be had for $50-$60. you're paying 40% more and 42% of the price of the console itself that comes with a controller for the Elite controller and it isn't drastically different than the original controller. I'm willing to bet most of that markup isn't production cost. I highly doubt it cost Microsoft that much more to make the Elite controller.

The only thing I don't like about it is that they removed all the individual colors of the face buttons. Just doesn't make sense since many games will show prompts with the colors that have been displayed to gamers on the xbox brand for many years now...

Might not seem like a big deal, but I would open that controller up and swap out the buttons from another controller just because of that.

The controller isn't designed for casuals who need to have everything color coded. I highly doubt someone who doesn't even know where the buttons are is seriously trying to buy this thing. This controller is marketed to the FPS crowd more than anything. The only game I can think of that had only color prompts instead of actual button prompts was Ryse.

I guess. I just got the glacier white and the spartan locke controllers this weekend and they don't have colored buttons either. I think it's dope. It's only aesthetics though. Like you said, nothing major.
