What they probably should have done is make another xbox live tier.

Xbox gold
Xbox gold + family share (always on)

If you just choose gold, you don’t have to always be online but you cant participate in family share. And if you later sign up for family share(cause you found out how sweet it is), then you have to sign up for a full year and have your system subject to the 24/7 checks for 1 year. This way it keeps people from going on then offline anytime they please. And messing that system up. that was one of the big reasons for always on. your system was becoming a mini game server by hosting your games for your 10 family members to share. you cant host if you're not online.

^^this would’ve worked if you think about it.
Best of both worlds.

You know they have something down the line for family share. I doubt they just trash this feature. They fell back because everyone cried "we want options," so give me the option to opt-in :bryan:

They have a family plan now, so maybe it could be a part of that.

its not.

the family plan. is so you only have to buy ONE XBOX GOLD membership for your console. no matter how many profiles you have on your console. everyone will be able to use the same GOLD to get online. but their stats will be correctly linked to their profile.

it has nothing to do with the game sharing thru what they called the family sharing plan. which really was friends and family sharing plan.

I know it's not a part of it, i was meaning maybe it COULD be a part of it. Maybe they could tweak it some, but I don't see that happening.

The family plan would only have allowed 10 friends to play 45-60 minute demos and then they would be prompted to buy the game on the marketplace.

Anyone who you deem to be family had access to these games regardless of where they are in the world. There was never any catch to that, they didn't have to share the same billing address or physical address it could be anyone. When your family member accesses any of your games, they're placed into a special demo mode. This demo mode in most cases would be the full game with a 15-45 minute timer and in some cases an hour. This allowed the person to play the game, get familiar with it then make a purchase if they wanted to. When the time limit was up they would automatically be prompted to the Marketplace so that they may order it if liked the game.

I don't believe that. If that would have been the case... That would have been worse than drm.
