That's not true at all because PRIDE was pretty much started and ran by former NJPW wrestlers

A fight requires 1 person agree to lose to fix it, only the promoter and the losing fighter need to be in on it, a football game is less fixable. Plus MMA fans would not go for it, they generally hate any association with pro wrestling.

Now I know they didn't fail because of incompetence, and the new XFL actually wasn't bad but it was still a gamble even without the pandemic.
