I had to google that discount for you, and it was a stretch to call the discounts "plenty"

It's a loss because there is no way a new system should be $170 off in less than a year. No way. M$ is hurting retailers, which will hurt them in the future. There's no way around that. If retailers are taking a loss then they will buy fewer xbones in the future. Which will of course hurt microsoft

Retaliers always have the option of returning products they can't sale. Obviously it's more lucrative for them to discount the system than sell it back. They aren't "taking a loss".
