I feel you on that. I feel as though it has to do with a lack of stars and leaders in the class. Its a very talented class this year and its not short on hits, but no one has that star aura like previous classes. I think the audience is wiser to fads than they even know themselves so even though people riding Fetty Wap hard, they know years from now his sound is going to be largely irrelevant to them. He's probably the biggest name on the list too.

Here's how I tiered the individual classes:
2008 Leaders (Lupe Fiasco, Plies, Lil Boosie,) Young Dro. Fads (Rich Boy, Gorilla Zoe,) UG (Saigon, Joell Ortiz, Crooked I, Papoose.)
2009 Leaders (Kid Cudi B.o.B, Wale,) Stars (Ace Hood, Curren$y, Asher Roth, Cory Gunz,) UG Blu, Mickey Factz, Charles Hamilton
2010 Leaders (Wiz Khalifa, Big Sean, J. Cole,) Stars (Nipsey Hussle, Jay Rock) Fad OJ da Juiceman UG (Freddie Gibbs, Pill,) Fashawn, and Donnis.
2011 Leaders (Kendrick Lamar,Mac Miller, Meek Mill,) Stars (Lil B, Big K.R.I.T.,Yelawolf, YG Diggy Simmons,Fred the Godson) Cyhi The Prynce, Lil Twist,
2012 Leaders (Macklemore, Future) Stars (Iggy Azalea, Machine Gun Kelly, French Montana, Kid Ink,) Danny Brown, Hopsin, Fad Roscoe Dash Don Trip
2013 Leader Logic,Joey Bada$$? Stars (Kirko Bangz, Action Bronson, Schoolboy Q, Ab-Soul, Travi$ Scott, Dizzy Wright) Fads(Trinidad James,Chief Keef) Angel Haze
2014 Leader Chance The Rapper, Stars (Rich Homie Quan, Ty Dolla $ign, August Alsina. Lil Durk,Kevin Gates, Vic Mensa, Lil Bibby,Troy Ave, Isaiah Rashad) Jon Connor, Jarren Benton
2015 Stars? (Raury,Vince Staples,Tink, OG Maco) Fads (Fetty Wap, Dej Loaf, Shy Glizzy, K Camp) Kidd Kidd,Goldlink

So I feel as though previous years have had people there that clearly had hype on them before they were on the list and everyone was paying attention to while this year has a lot more niche artists that satisfy a specific crowd, but lack crossover appeal. My guess for no one caring this year is lack of common interest.

^true. that makes sense.

i dont agree Keef is a fad though. still gets major downloads/views for songs/tapes, 3+ years after his first big song. rest of the list on point.

But last year's roster was special

Chance the hipster hype monster, RHQ, Ty $, and August the Instagram/Twitter thot favorites, Durk and Bibby Chiraq representatives, Kevin Gates & Troy Ave always in headlines for some shyt, Jon Connor & Jarren Benton two really underrated and talented spitters, Isaiah Rashad and Vic Mensa both gearing up for very bright futures and got co-signs from TDE/Roc Nation/Kanye. Last year brought back hype to the list after it fell off for a couple years

There's nobody with a really substantial fanbase in this class and mostly everybody is still coming up/largely unknown. And plus, who's trying to hear Fetty Wap, Dej Loaf, and OG Maco freestyle? They hardly qualify as rappers

How did Charles Hamilton, Fashawn, CyHi Da Prynce, Jon Connor, Jarren Benton, and Angel Haze all get crossed out :heh:
Jon Connor and Jarren Benton had the best cypher verses that year, and Angel Haze was top 3 in her year, as was Fashawn, and CyHi Da Prynce bodied that cypher, he just got overlooked
This has to be trolling :damn:

:yeshrug:

I crossed people out if they haven't had any buzz since making the list. If they haven't popped of commercially or underground or nothing in their respective years I highly doubt they gonna pop out of nowhere to make a comeback.

The purpose of the XXL freshmen lists are to showcase the trendsetters and the future faces of Hip-Hop that we are to see and hear from for years to come not to set up some sort of tournament that will determine who is truly the best within the elements of hip-hop. As you can see the rappers that I chose as "leaders" are still the around today making major waves whenever they drop, selling diamond singles, platinum albums, or headlining and selling out huge tours. The "stars" are still around with varying degrees of commercial success but haven't made the cultural impacts that the leaders have. Anyone left in normal text are still making hits and moves here and there but have generally disappeared from the public eye. Crossed out: Where dey at doe?:patrice:

not sure about 2013's leaders though or this years class at all really. We might not be seeing any of them in 2 years which is why i set it up the way I did.

If yall wan tes me g'wan.
Make your own tier lists and explain your criteria:birdman:
