hip-hop has decentralized - there are plenty of brilliant mainstream and well-known "underground" music coming out:

Little Simz, Nas, Earl Sweatshirt, billy woods, Curren$y, Noname, Mick Jenkins, Apollo Brown, Danny Brown & JPEG Mafia, Recognize Ali, and Killer Mike have all released fantastic albums this year - albums that would have made year-end lists 30 years ago

but there is substantially more music, more regional, more niche, and less popularly determined by radio and a small group of music outlets

That what happens when you let trap beats aka TECHNO BEATS with heavy drums and autotune take over. Now in 2023, Hip Hops 50th Anniversary failed to generate enough attention to keep going.

Its all over, because of these microwave crackbabies taking over everything.

At least Nas made it to 50 years old.. thats the highlight of Hip Hop

He been through some a lot of wild stuff

- Nas' Van getting lid up in QB

- ILL Will dying

- Beefing with Jay-Z while his mama was dying and managed to give some classic quotables

● Beans needing a hug and a stern talk

● Cam getting bagged with a 22 and Nas saying that he was shooting dogs with that thing

● Funk Flex payola and how hes wack

● Ether dropping like the Napalm bomb

No rapper now has that many legendary stories like he did.

It’s been dead since Nas made the Hip Hop Is Dead album back in 2006. From the ringtone era to now the crackhead rapper era. That’s what happens when you make it only about hit songs for the charts instead of quality music.

Crazy thing is that the South caught feelings over that but the whole time Nas was getting NY nikkas like G-Unit and Dipset.

Now it is...

Only difference is that 85% of the rappers are cartoon characters.

U have more rappers actually living out their raps. Back then, they were the goons in the background funding the rappers. Now all u need is a HD camera, a 808 beat, and some Guns and u can be a rapper.

When Hip Hop required u to work harder and be grateful that a A&R would take your demo, u had to truly appreciate your position.

He might’ve been getting at everyone. Nas does have songs with Scarface who is from the south but more from the older era. Not the era of ringtone rap which was a mockery of everything they once were making.

Nas talked about rappers spittiing hate at bosses...

Uncle Murda was dissing Nas and Mobb Deep on a mixtape song

Maino came out with a How To Rob song dissing Wu, Bad Boy, Roc A Fella

JR Writer and Jim Jones were dissing Jay-Z regularly

All NY nikkas.

U didnt see no up coming South rappers dissing OutKast in that period.

It was a free for all at that time. If all of those artists dissing each other would’ve made records with one another things might’ve been different. It never made s sense to me why everyone was dissing each other. It made for good entertainment but it hurt the coast.
