i remember copping ATSOL on a whim back in 96. had no idea who he was, never heard Paparazzi just thought the cover looked dope and had a listen in the store and was hooked from the Taxi Driver sample. i didn't even know it was from Taxi Driver back then i just heard "the scum, the c*nts, the filth, the shyt" BOOM BOOM BOOM BOOM..... *drums kick in*
ATSOL is in my top 10 ever. can't even count how many times I bumped that album from beginning to end. maybe my all time favorite smoke session album. that shyt takes you to another world. dope rhymes, dark haunting beats...damn I need to bump that shyt.
Used to read the source while stood at the magazine stand, mainly to check for a new xzibit advert/upcoming releases for the release date for 40 nightz. Remember getting half way through summer 98 thinking wtf hasn't this shyt dropped yet.
Finally it did so I went home and downloaded that shyt at a blazing 3.7k/sec
At the speed of life is his hands down best album. The lyricism and the beats fit each other perfect on that shyt. One of the most unsung classics of the 90s.
40 days was dope too but not on ATSOL level. can't see how anyone could rank any of his albums above speed of life. You would have to have not heard it or a youngin.
Both Classics? Debatable but I think his debut is close and it has aged really well. I liked 40 dayz but I felt it was step down from "Speed of Life". Ironically his 1st two albums are his lowest selling albums of his career and they are his best albums.
