1. This is the same night Austin walked out

2. Hollywood Rock was gone for the time being and returned a few weeks later (remember, they didn't like that he found success outside wrestling, which is why they only have ONE top guy to this day)

3. HBK and HHH have a history of failed attempts to bury Rocky in the past

4. HBK is the same guy who didn't want to job to Austin until Taker taped them fists, you think he didn't hold a grudge that night?

I'm not saying present-day HBK cares about that these days, but Trips has proven he is still insecure to this day. There's no way they didn't discuss this part of the promo and it was just a throwaway "heel" line.

even if it was a rib against both guys, it doesn't mean they believe it. it just means they knew they could get away with saying it. as heels you have the freedom to be more arrogant.
