I believe we can still focus on girls (they are still targeted), but there is a definite need to also place focus on the boys.

They are unknowingly creating a self-fulfilling prophecy.

:francis:
We’ve been focused on the girls too long. They simply dont reinvest in the community.

I can't help but feel as if we're ignoring a key aspect of this: The internal attitudes about black boys that these teachers have. For the teachers that are not black, one could blame racism and so on for this behavior but what about the black teachers?
It's racism:what: This isn't some new phenomenon, it's possible to have racist views towards your own race, it's becoming more common as Black people in mixed communities assimilate.

It's not garden variety racism though, since they ignored the black girl and focused on the black male. It needs to be looked into.

Agree to disagree, racism is racism, it's not 'misogynoir' or 'black male misandry', it's racism.

Also, breh he's a little boy not a 'black male'.

Its a shame that black people live in high concentrations within red states. I wouldve suggested continuing education classes for teachers, admin, counselor’s etc about prexisting bias, but im 99% sure that is considered “woke” and it would be shot down.

You can't get cacs to unlearn their biases because those are the result of the country they grew up in and the anti-Black bias they're all instilled with.

As for the Black teachers they've been tainted by being around cacs too long.

So the only real solution is re-segregation. But Black people would have to be dragged away from cacs kicking and screaming and would never go for it.

But when you put your children in classrooms with cacs, your racial nemesis, they're going to find reasons to punish, suspend, or expel them. And just because of their inherent anti-Blackness.

While more black male teachers is good, I can't help but feel as if we're ignoring a key aspect of this: The internal attitudes about black boys that these teachers have. For the teachers that are not black, one could blame racism and so on for this behavior but what about the black teachers? If a majority of the teachers are female, then we can assume they're black female teachers. What excuse do they have? More attention should be paid to this. Especially how we've seen, with some black therapists, a similar issue. How pervasive is this issue? Why are people so set in ignoring this particular aspect? Because simply put, possibly pervasive anti-black male sentiment in the educational system by people who are black and thus are trusted and expected to be understanding towards black issues is beyond terrifying. Even more so than the fact that this thread continues to languish and be ignored while a thread on some random racist white youtuber ("It's just the internet") or passport bros is triple platinum.

I'd also wonder, if this is a pervasive problem, how much good would a black male teacher do if even the system is not working in tandem with him on this issue? One could do good but I can't help but feel that he would end up being stone-walled on various issues.

I'm beginning to understand the pessimism about "the community".
Excuse? That shyt is working by design.. :francis:

And the few black dudes I know in education are trying to get away as hard and fast as possible..

Malcolm Gladwell has a great chapter in Blink regarding how many White people in positions of power use different body language with Black folk than they use with White folk. Black folk pick up on those negative nonverbal cues and react accordingly like any person would - it puts them more on edge, reduces their confidence, makes them more uncertain on how to react next. The conversation becomes more stilted, less comfortable as a result. Then the White people in turn see that reaction and think, "This person isn't competent" or get other negative impressions, failing to realize that it was their own body language that created the situation in the first place. It puts Black interviewees or employees at a distinct disadvantage.

If that's true even for adults, think of how much more true it must be for children.

It might be better for people if I just quote the exact passage I'm talking about. Here is the paragraph I was referring to:

"The IAT is more than just an abstract measure of attitudes. It's also a powerful predictor of how we act in certain kinds of spontaneous, situations. If you have a strongly pro-white pattern of associations, for example, there is evidence that that will affect the way you behave in the presence of a black person. It's not going to affect what you'll choose to say or feel or do. In all likelihood, you won't be aware that you're behaving any differently than you would around a white person. But chances are you'll lean forward a little less, turn away slightly from him or her, close your body a bit, be a bit less expressive, maintain less eye contact, stand a little farther away, smile a lot less, hesitate and stumble over your words a bit more, laugh at jokes a bit less. Does that matter? Of course it does. Suppose the conversation is a job interview. And suppose the applicant is a black man. He's going to pick up on that uncertainty and distance, and that may well make him a little less certain of himself, a little less confident, and a little less friendly. And what will you think then? You may well get a gut feeling that the applicant doesn't really have what it takes, or maybe that he is a bit standoffish, or maybe that he doesn't really want the job. What this unconscious first impression will do, in other words, is throw the interview hopelessly off course."

You can read that chapter here. The paragraph I quoted is on pages 85-86:

I was in gifted since 3rd grade…my elementary school had one bus full of black kids so u kno how that shyt was

Middle school I went to the black school in the hood, but by then they had rezoned the districts to school was damn near 50% white

Now high school..in gifted, we would meet in the auditorium a cpl days each semester and they would tell us to go get our class work from our teachers n shyt…so me my boy Walt and Sean were going to our classes, we were bullshyttin around but we had hall passes so we was gucci…the ISS lady see us walking around after the bell rings and aggressively walks up to us and demands we go to the deans office…we look at this cac like :childplease: we in gifted ho and whip out the hall passes…she legit had a look of terror/shock/confusion/anger/hatred on her face all at the same time and literally said “Whhhatt!??? AHow are y’all in gifted!??”

I coulda flamed her ass but I just shook my head and walked away with the satisfaction of her shyttyness

After that lil incident, I didn’t feel bad when for her when one of the homies made her cry in ISS…said her husband died because she was a dumb bytch and wanted to get away from her

A lot of,people will overlook this.
Men are the only ones talking building. We uplifted women while neglecting boys and the women simply use the new found capital to consume for self more.

The damn women on this site continue to let nikkas know they dont need men and how much better they are with all they do now and nikkas still play stupid.
