Bad decisions can arise from subpar training and a lack of mental evaluation across the board. When you add in institutional racism and hiring practices that antagonize the issue then you get a shytload of bad decisions across the board happening constantly. That doesn't change the fact that bad decisions of any kind and especially the worst kind, taking a life unnecessarily, have consequences. When the people who continually perpetrate these bad decisions are continually let off the hook for their actions and not dealt with accordingly it goes well beyond bad decisions. This is racism now. Lupe was trying to boil it down to a code of ethics that constantly evaporate for black people every single time an incident like this occurs. He needs to get the fukk out of here with his bullshyt.

I don't think he was saying that we need to call it that way 100% of the time, but rather how we approach accountability.

I disagree because the cops decision in both the Sterling and Castile incidents were fueled mostly by racism and fear of black men that have been instilled in this country for years. The procedure they go about handling situations with black men, are always more hostile and volatile because instinctively they see us as a threat and a target, even when no immediate danger is present. In the Alton situation, while he had a gun, he was already pinned to the ground with two officers on top of him. There was no immediate reasonable threat of a gun being used. The "bad decision" comes from
Being scared of black men. The Castile case is even more maddening because they killed him after he was simply following their directions. All because that fear they have for black men.

I posted a study a while back that showed the neurology behind someone getting a dispatch call and hearing "black" or even worse "black male" and how different'y black and white people reacted to other terms that didn't polarize their perception as much. This doesn't remove responsibility or even suggest that we don't have sleeper cells of the KKK within the military and law enforcement, because we CERTAINLY do. But a lot of these a$$holes are untrained and have been conditioned by the media and even more so by their occupation to go into fight or flight overdrive when the word or even concept of black hits their nervous systems.

That's deeper than good/bad cops or even decisions.

What he said sounds idealistic and it is...but like you said is sound logic. I live in the hood, I got guns but I don't NEED them when I walk outside usually. If youre a cop in a major city...what is the race of the criminals you deal w/ the majority of the time?
