Not sure why he's calling this a beta test when it's available in the app store though.

:lupe:
The appstore is merely a distribution platform to allow ppl access to the beta.

The only way to successfully test server load, downloading, uptime, autoresponse, ping, security concerns and numerous other things is to launch a beta.. and while for a gaming app you can get away with a closed server beta, for a social app of this scale he needs to test it on a place like the appstore cause he isn't funded by a tech giant.

There's an app called TestFlight that developers usually use to distribute an app during beta testing and there are ways to stress test an app before a public launch.

Do to the nature of the app he has a more serious set of concerns than 99% of devs. If he were just making a screentap sidescroller he could use that.

That won't test certain problems he specifically needs to preempt. And despite what ppl advertise you also cannot stresstest anything with a beta-specific server because it inherently lacks the userbase (ie the stress). Very few companies have the built-in userbase to actually recreate server crowding without resorting to simulation. You can do projections, simulations, etc but thats all. Security issues like certificate checks and access escalation, phishing, etc... these cannot be properly tested in a beta enviornment. So while a beta server has its uses if you are testing a flappybird clone or low level security risk type app, for a mass social network which stores user info and has access privillage checks for phone/pc data like picture uploads, etc... you either need to livetest (like he is doing by putting it on the actual appstore) or you need to be backed by a tech giant who can specifically design a testserver for your specific needs like Blizzard with battle.net or League of Legends pbe server. But even still, from working in quality assurance for several largescale companies I can tell you there are always problems that occur in live that simply don't crop up in closed beta envions. So if your app/game is low level those bugs might only result in loading ques and error screens. On a social app like a facebook/twitter clone like this one though those bugs could mean mass personal data leaks, or illegal malware classification such as privillage escalation (you let an app browse a folder to upload a pic now it can remotely scan that folder when it wants, etc). Or memory leaks where the app is draining the battery in your phone or hogging ram on your PC cause its waitloop is poorly optimized. His app also has political design so will be specifically be targeted by hackers and scriptkidddies... so he needs to treat this serious.

Realistic simulated users
We simulate traffic exactly how it would happen in real life. No hidden caching or romanticized user behavior.

Our Virtual Users (VUs):

  • Use multiple concurrent TCP connections when loading resources from a single target host
  • Can ramp-up from 0 to 100,000 users in under a minute
  • Can emulate a range of browsers such as IE, Firefox, Chrome, Safari and Opera
  • Can emulate a variety of mobile devices and network conditions such as 3G, 4G, Edge, etc.
  • Use DNS just like real clients (cache according to TTL, etc.)
  • Extensive HTTP support including redirect behavior, custom headers, all verbs, cookie handling, compression handling, etc.

Thats what I said. Its simulating.
Not good enough for a security risk app. You need to actually run the tests not sim them.

Simulation testing is for if you wanna make a candycrush clone, not facebook.

What kind of tests do you think are running with "real users" that can't be run with simulated users?

If he really preaches all this black economics he should've gone with a black tech firm/developer for his services.

His only excuse would be if the Black services were all complete crap.

Then again he is a hustler who's used to financing everything crowd funding.

:manny:

nothing wrong with being a hustler and CACs are crowdfunding bullshyt like potato salad all day every day

with that said, I hope a black tech firm was involved and even if one wasnt initially involved in the beginning, he should farm off the day to day responsibility of this app to one of them so things can be managed properly

either way, I'm supporting. this is an ambitious move on his part and deserves the benefit of the doubt. Folks are quick to put their whole life story on FB/Twitter/etc when these companies routinely shyt on black people and sell information

Those simulations are mostly useful for load projection. They simply can't account for intentional badactors or actual user scenereos.

For example, if I have a 100 square foot room in real life and I know a person takes up 3 square feet, then I can determine the room can hold 33 ppl.
Thats an example of simulation thinking. It uses math, logic, etc.

But if I were to get 33 actual ppl and start putting them into the room, all sorts of chaos would ensue that couldn't be predicted.
Asthma attacks, fat ppl boxing in smaller ppl, persons leaning against walls, getting tired and laying on the ground, wandering out of their squares, etc.
Ppl sneaking in pets, sneaking snacks and making messes, etc.
And this is all before looking at badactors (intentional malacious persons there for sinister reasons) trying to pickpocket, fight, steal a better square to stand in, destroy the room, etc. Fires, ppl doing drugs, body odor, pedos, weapons, hatespeech, upskirting, the list goes on.

These are random examples, there are infinite others a sim will never even begin to fathom.
You can only ever understand the level of chaos you are dealing with by opening up the room and letting the people in.
