I remember this one summer I was going to one of my family cookouts and I swore I had did some growing up since last time I saw her. And I think I was 13 (and a half ) I used to crush on one of my cousins friends like a MF. She was just at the time, but like 3 years older than me. But you know back then, at age 13, a 16 year old is damn near a grown woman

So we're talking for talking for a while, and she's telling me what I should expect in High School when I go. And that I shouldn't be nervous because it's not what everyone thinks and that I'll have no problems because I'm "very good looking". And naturally when she said that, I laughed and blushed

So she gets up to the Kitchen to get some Sprite and I asked me did I want one, and I told her "No, get me a Seltzer" because I thought that would make me seem older or something Because everyone knows that only adults drink Seltzer

So we're talking for the next hour about life and shyt. She asked me did I have a girlfriend. And I didn't because this was a few months before I hit puberty and started getting girls a lot and still looked like a Minion I told her I didnt and then She told me not to rush and to take my time because young girls are dangerous (she was right )

Then she yawns and lays on my shoulder.

And Im just sitting her like

Im thinking now this the my time to shine I need to cash on this moment right now. This is the moment she overlooks my age and all around ness and tomorrow we start the rest of our lives and get married eventually, and we'll have kids and we'll tell them the story of the night we fell in love

So I go to put my arm around her

the "you're like 12" line is universal ether. most of my friends growing up were older, and it was usually never a problem except for the years of being 12 - when they're 13, 17- when they're 18+, and 20 - when you can't go to bars with them

even being 15 and not having a license is ok, because a lot of girls aren't driving till like 17 anyway

but being called 12 by a woman after you're clearly 13 and have just spent 365 days avoiding discussing age only to be set back to square 1 in a single sentence

although i do remember i was messing with a girl in college who hit some 16 year old with that when he was trying to get at her and i just stood there like

This was a great story, and you tell so well. Enjoyed the gifs especially. But what planet did I live on where I was not touched as a child and trying to smash in middle school? Seems to be the norm for anyone born after the Civil Rights Era. I was too busy dropping feral cats off old bridges in the woods, target practice in fields, making dance routines and trapping lightening bugs in glass jars at family events. I remember debating talking to her on AIM every night trying to decide what to say had no in person or online conversational skills then

we talked regularly and she was nice to me and she knew I had a huge crush on her cause some dude spread it around the school so she got my AIM and started talking to me. I never thought it was going real well but I was naive and thought I was out here winning

I go to my locker as quick as I can and throw them shyts in there so no one else can see me with these flowers and ask me what the fukk is going on

At the end of the day I debate taking them home but I think I just threw em in the trash so I wouldn't have them to take home and tell my folks what happened.


She ended up asking me to Sadie Hawkins a couple months later and made me a mini cake but I was about the whole thing cause it felt like a pity invite cause I knew there was another breh in the picture. That was the first ether that had me not asking girls out for a long while after that


fast forward years later and we're cool when we see each other, she's still fine and smart and she was always a good person but I got no real feelings either way about that situation. it doesn't bother me one bit, but thought I'd share my ether instead of having the thread derailed

I've got an ex, the one I originally planned to marry and life my days with, who is in the EXACT same spot!
We were together since freshman year of college and her family (traditional muslim from egypt) constantly broke us up every other week, even went as far as abducting her to another state to live so we couldn't be together. So after a while of being off and on...I moved south.
Waaaay south.
Crazy thing...she followed me!
We finally started out our life together and things were going well for a while.
Until her damn family got involved again...then it was back to the same bullshyt. They wanted to enforce their family tradition of arranged marriages and I was their enemy.
I wasn't about to be anybodys dirty little secret...so I bounced.

So she contacts me like 10 years after we split up and tells me the whole sad story of her life after us.
She went through with the arranged marriage her family wanted and the guy did nothing but treat her like shyt, beat her bloody and cheat on her with backpage hoes. All that family money didn't make up for her misery and degradation.
She whored out after getting away from him for a few years, but he stalked her and her boyfriends and she wound up moving across the country with her kid to get away from him.
She constantly lets me know that I'm the only guy that never did her wrong and that she still loves me and will always love me. She says we'll always be friends and that she will always love me.
Calls and texts me every few weeks and keeps it friendly, never steps over the line because she knows i'm happily married.
But...
I hate it...but I love it...because where was all that love and devotion when we were together?
Why couldn't she tell her family to fukk off and let us be together?
Why did she let them back in after we ran away and started a life together?
Why didn't she choose me over them?
Why'd she fukk everything up?
Why didn't she just follow her heart?

Maybe I was just dumb for thinking she ever really loved me too...Guess she was kissing a fool...
