I love that show, but that storyline made no sense. Vern gave his own son heroin to overdose on... and blamed it on Beecher. bad writing smh
Yeah, it's one of my favorites too.
I feel like Vern blamed Beecher because, in his mind, he thinks Tobias turned his son against him, which in response caused him to poison the heroin given to his son in solitary.
Vern was in denial that his own sons didn't need to be convinced or played mind games with to turn on him; they already hated their father, and Andrew, before he overdosed, let it be known, and blamed his father for turning him into a racist, leading to him being in jail, among other things such as ruining his life.
The same thing with Hank, who didn't have no love for him either. When it came to his sons, Vern saw them through a rose-tinted lens, basically compartmentalizing the reality that whether it was his sons, father, or even that Aryan leader on the outside who visited and thought he was a joke to the brotherhood, etc, nobody cared about him.
That's partially why he hated Beecher so much because Tobias had people who cared about him, and his life before Oz was better, and whenever he got out, he would've still been in a better situation than himself.
