Kofi needs to turn heel because his current role stunts the growth of the midcard. He's the guy the midcard heels beat on their way up the card, but he can still trade wins back and forth with them, so when they beat him, it still feels legitimate. It's time someone else took that role. There is absolutely no reason a guy like Justin Gabriel or Zack Ryder or even R-Truth couldn't have beaten Antonio Cesaro for the US Championship instead of giving Kofi his SEVENTH midcard title reign.
The only way to change that is to do something drastic with him. You can't just give him a push because he'll inevitably fall back down into his role, as he does every time he doesn't have a championship belt. So the only options are heel turn or deavors, and since I consider myself the resident Kofi Kingston stan, I think it's clear which one I'd rather see.

Regardless if fans like him "alot", doesnt change the fact that wrestlers who have been over like 10 X more than c00ni as faces have turned heel like that, what makes dude different?

Watch him come back in August All Smiles as usual like nothing ever happened, he probably won't even try to get revenge on Ryback. Evan Bourne will be back by then and they reform Airboom and go for the tag belts.
If Kofi (or more importantly, creative) doesn't run with that, then that'll be one of the dumbest decisions they made all year. It's RIGHT THERE for them to build off of.
Kofi, the good guy who flies around and entertains everyone, slaps hands with the fans, does the autographs... and what did he get in return for all that? "One More Time"? They wanted to see him get destroyed and put on the shelf? That's the thanks he gets?
If nothing else, they have the ammo to set it up.
