It doesn't. the catfish species that people eat snacks on other fish plants and alge and insects.....things like cory catfish which people put in thier fish tanks dobut we dont eat those...all cat fish are not bottom feeder...snapper and flounder which people say they eat feed exclusively on the bottom

Catfish and tilapia are some nasty ass fish in general,just the fact that most people only eat them fried let's you know.
If you really wanted to taste the full flavor of a fish,you would grill/steam/bake them.
This may be more of a regional thing tho,you see WE THE NORTH.

Other fish eat other small organisms and algae, plants etc

Ok so what do other fish eat, besides other fish or plants down in the water...
Majority of fish can live off water alone...hence when you take a live fish out of water it's gasping for air knowing it can die in minutes with water.
Catfish owns the title of being the biggest bottom feeder because among other fish it has a hard time of getting rid of toxins from things it's been eating which ranges from bugs and droppings from other sea creatures.
Other bottom feeders have a better immune system to fight off potential diseases prior to be caught and shipped to stores where it gets checked and cleaned.
