It can, with a less cultural impact of course, but unfortunately WWE doesn't have that drive and desire to make their product big in the Entertainment world again. Yeah 85,000 for Mania is impressive but the ratings still shyt, a majority of the world don't know who the WWE World Champ is unless it's Brock or Cena

Yeah, the only reason WrestleMania draws such big numbers these days is because it's marketed as THE wrestling extravaganza that pull in fans across the world and is frankly, the only show that matters. It's a convention. The name on the marquee draws.

Back in the Attitude era, WrestleMania was pulling off 800,000+ buys DOMESTIC (not relying on International buys for 40+% of its business) and drawing big crowds off the strength of their stars. WreswtleMania X7 drew 67,000 fans and 1.04 million buys/970,000 domestic because people wanted to see The Rock vs. Stone Cold

The McMahon family themselves unfortunately, and you may think this is a joke, but I truly think the 9/11 played a huge role in changing the course of things in general of every part of society, even in wrestling. Everything gradually started becoming tame, safe, watered down, etc, and then most of the times when they tried going the other way, it just wasn't the same. Not saying there were never any good-great memorable events since then, but they haven't been the norm like it used to.
