you complain when he spits diamond and bentley raps. but when he keeps it real. you cry and say it isnt lyrical enough.

here's the thing. the title of the song is "I DO IT FOR HIPHOP"

as a MCEE you cant take that to a few places. you can get all lyrical, double entendre -ish, or you can tell a story about what hiphop has done for you or why you do it for hiphop and not the fancy things you have.

Luda addressed the later. Nas was somewhat off topic early in his verse then he brought it back around towards the end and tied it all together.

jayZ, actually stayed on topic and was honest. and yall still mad. wow. i mean he started off with the MCshan style, to keep it extra hiphop for you. but that wasnt enough. he told a story about how it started and the reason why it started which was the same thing that saved him. but yall probably dont understand that history. it started to keep the youth from doing bad, doing dirt, fighting and harming one another. this same thing gave jigga a chance to stop doing dirt and stop ducking cops and robbers. and yall mad at the dude's verse.

this jayz verse was dope to me and i wish he had more like it (he has one more on a missy song mad years back)

im one of those that criticize his verses all the time so this was the last great jay verse imo

I agree with you.........when the title of the song is called "Do It For Hip Hop" it so many directions you as a lyricists can go with that.....you almost need part 2 and part 3 to really get some depth......... one of my favorite songs off the album..

The wackest thing about this song is that there was no video for it for 3 top tier artists like this...

I liked this when it came out, never liked Luda or his verse, but the beat and Nas and Jay were cool to me, Jay's verse was always a little off, with that weird flow I think he was paying homage to some older flow or some shyt...

Seldom replay it though, one of those in the moment tracks, that didn't have much staying power.

no doubt. having a jay/nas feature on the same song was a big deal back then too. I mean besides this, they have only done 2 other songs together.
