There's all kinds of comedy and entertainment aspects on ESPN networks . Sports alone isn't enough entertainment for ratings.

No. They are still going to air programming that is similar sports, like competitions.
ESPN feels like drone racing is close enough to their normal programming that their viewers will watch. It's not very difficult.
