The BET Hip Hop Awards gave their Album of the Year to The Carters. Cardi B was nominated. Everyone else who was nominated for the Grammy last night was not.

my situation is not the same- I grew up in a family where( aside from my mother), I was the only female with all male siblings (older brothers and one younger). Whatever they listened to, tended to filter over to me. (nas, mobb, early nyc rappers). It's not uncommon for me to be able to recite word for word, "start of your ending or qu hectic" by mobb deep or some dipset verses whereas you won't see the average girl knowing all that during that time. But, there was balance because by having brothers, I was under their protection- didn't let me just act any type of way, none of the sex and raunchy shyt that girls now are exposed to, no posted up with different dudes, thirst thottin for attention- if I wasn't in the house, I was with them, or if I was with my friends- they have someone checking out for me, or it would be a friend of their friend. Whereas music now promotes sexual dysfunction and promotion- as a little girl progressing to a teenager, I had the checks and balances in place to know the boundaries. These girls may not have that type of guidance. I cant see any father/brother/uncle involved in their daughter's life, like mine are to me, letting them be boosted by Cardi B or sanctioning this. Same thing I'm doing for mine.

Exactly she has. So keep the focus on that. I don't get the angle in talking about sex constantly. Hoeing has always been around. Why do you need to hear what Jason Black and Tariq say as if you cannot think independently? And spoiler alert, Tariq last night didn't have anything bad to say about Cardi and said she had a really big year.

That's the thing, it's like what I mentioned in the Bow Wow thread, it's all about your reputation amongst your peers.

Cardi B just seems like a more positive and energetic person than Nicki Minaj.

The worst thing you can be in the industry is cutthroat. There's a level of confidence, no doubt, but you want to give off the impression that you're easy to work with and have good intentions for your peers and younger artists. If people act shady toward you that's cool, don't throw them under the bus unless you need to defend yourself (without overdoing it). Just keep it moving because if that's how they are then it'll come to the surface anyway (because they'll probably do it again to somebody else) and your reputation won't be tarnished. Word gets around quick and people talk.

But if you keep throwing shade, then no younger stars will want to work with you and the industry thrives on younger stars. That's how many artists who are older stay in the spotlight, they help the younger artists out and the younger artists give them some shine. There's mutual respect.

It's no different than any other job. At the end of the day they, like everybody else, are human and we don't like to work with people who are cutthroat and overly competitive. Rather we like to work with people who will help us get better, are supportive, have good intentions and want to collaborate rather than compete. In other words, those who seek win-win situations for all parties. Nobody likes working with people who are only in it for themselves or have a serious chip on their shoulder (unless it's for a very noble cause) because it's toxic.
