I get where you're coming from.
I feel like Kanye is the pop culture figure that 21st Century mainstream Pop Culture deserves, but not necessarily the one we need.
To me, he undoubtedly has a talent, but he's worked overtime to make himself a reflection of the vapidness of current pop culture - with it's obsession with celebrity, designer labels, stage managed photo opps, carefully marketed beefs, meme humour and ADD riddled 140 character long sweeping statements. His wife's family have made hundreds of millions of dollars riding that exact same wave.
Music wise - I find what he does interesting. As a writer, I've always had a soft spot for a good story arc, and for all his sins he's given the audience that across the work he's released though his career. Just personal opinion.
I feel like he does too much sometimes, but If he can be a force for positive change or empowerment for others who come after him in some of the fields he's getting involved in, I don't even know if I can be mad at that. I don't necessrily agree with the way he gets his points across, but if it works for someone else. more power to them.
@The HONORABLE SKJ are there any artists from this generation you would consider to be genuine about Black empowerment? Not a bait question - I'd like to know what you think...
