On the Making Of Hitsville documentary about Motown, they had clips of Levi Stubbs and Otis Williams talking about the rivalry the Temptations & Four Tops had. Otis said they only had the upper hand by a little bit because they could dance. Two great groups.

I didnāt want to be the one to say thisā¦but I find myself bumpinā Spinners more than the other two groups.
SEMI-RELATED: I recently finished reading Bobby Rushās book. He says this era is when Blues lost.
Guys like he and his contemporaries who could go play a show with just a guitar and a harmonica was
no match for groups like the Stylistics, Chi-Lites, and Motown. That was the beginning of big production
and background orchestras, the music was āpretty - we lost the ladies to that soundā.
I just watched them get inducted into the Rock n Roll hall of fame. New Edition did their tribute. They were a great group too. So many great groups in that era
love both groups, but I think folks sleep on the Dells.
