That same contrast in skin tone has had Lupita positioned as the Self-Hate Litmus Test though.
When you go this far with it, you prove that you are only being performative. To most men, a beautiful woman is beautiful no matter what skin color she comes in. The point where a choice is made on who to actually marry, may be based on maintaining a family ethnic identity, but to act like White skin color itself makes a person repulsive is just an inversion of White men claiming the same thing about Black skin (even though they were sneaking in the slave quarters at night showing the lie to the claim). Plus, still sneak out in these days, while going home to make racist rhetoric for public consumption.
