Bears need Olineman bad. I wouldn't have any issue with that. I still want a stud D lineman too though

Yeah both sides of the line were the biggest problems last year(Sweat excluded). If they weren't getting burned they were making stupid penalties in key situations.

This means nothing because at the end of the day, it’s about results (and situations matter more than anything). Scouts get paid to watch film like this all the time and they still get it wrong. I’m not even saying Caleb will be trash, but we don’t know for sure he’ll even be the best QB in this draft class. Last year, Bryce Young was the consensus #1 pick and no one batted an eye when he got picked first over Stroud. Baker Mayfield and Sam Darnold went ahead of Josh Allen, and all three plus Josh Rosen went ahead of Lamar Jackson.
Caleb may work out but i keep telling yall Penix is the most ready and will show out the best of the draft if he gets drafted and starts this year.

If Penix ends up on a team like the Vikings, they might be a problem with those receivers they have. I’m not understanding this JJ McCarthy love at all. I guess he’s the annual overrated white QB they all fall in love with that jumps in the draft board.

What will yall deem a successful season based on how last season ended combined with the moves so far? I’ve been getting the sentiment some of yall will be satisfied if we finish with 5 wins, but 2 of those wins came against the Packers, and Caleb (or whomever) passed for 4000 yards.

Ive watched a good amount of Penix film and theres a lot of issues with his tape

the main one - and its well documented on many scouting tape discussions - is that if you muddy the pocket his effectiveness takes a nosedive. he has issues throwing from various platforms and he is not a good outside the pocket

if you picking penix, you need a very good to elite oline play on obvious passing situations that can keep him clean, and dont expect many outside-the-structure plays like, say, Caleb does routinely

what worries me particularly - and this is my take on it - is that I saw similar issue with daniel jones pre-draft. great from inside the pocket, but navigating the pocket and pressure in his face really changes his play. not saying penix is daniel jones or anything, but just similar issues in their game

this is an article where even tho I disagree with the conclusion - I think penix is a first rounder, it kinda touches on the flaws:

Could be a little of that of this. I didn't even say it was conclusively eithers fault. That packers game was def on the oline completely though.

JJ McCarthy has a lot of "NFL throws" on his tape. I was actually surprised at how good some of his route tree throws were. Very good anticipatory throws in his film, but when you watch a full game, he struggles to get through a game and you can tell he's limited.

his injury history is also a concern. I like Penix though

I don't expect a winning season next year because up front on both sides of the ball we are still too talent deficient. Year 2 and Year 3 I expect a big leap.
