I'm not an Xbox stan, but I'm willing to play devils advocate for them.

We all hate kinect but how can you say that shyt wasn't innovative?

I think M$ presentation was terrible. But the vision they had was one point when it comes to innovation.

How they wanted to get there obviously wasn't going to work though.

M$ basically said: "We can get you to the Promise Land, but you have to sacrifice your first born to get there."

People didn't like that, so M$ just has to find a different way to get us there.

Edit: Reading your post again and I can't seem to find what separates your innovative and not innovative comparisons. XBL is but Digital Gaming isnt? 4 Controller Slots are but a Blu-Ray Player isn't?
innovation is the creation of something positive that benefits the market. i conceded that Blu-Ray was innovative but also ahead of its time as many games don't need the format. HD-DVD could have just have easily succeeded and our games would fit on that. many games that come on Blu-Rays just install data to the hard drive or redundantly put the same data all over the disc.

putting a hard drive in a console is innovation. Xbox Live is innovation. i'm not saying digital downloads aren't innovation i'm saying taking physical retail releases on a disc and transforming them into digital downloads for the sake of controlling the second hand market isn't innovation because it doesn't really benefit the market.

i don't recall saying Kinect wasn't innovative because it is. it doesn't really benefit me but the market overall gains from it.

True, it doesn't benefit the second hand market, but why would M$ want to benefit them?

Look I'll make it simple for you. I buy a game for 40$ and I lend that game out to everyone on my street for 10$ a week. By the end of the month I've made about 40-50$ I've now made more of a profit on the game than the developers made off of me.

That's how the second hand market is now, and trust me we've been :eat: real good off it for a while.
Remember how good we used to :eat: off of PC games back in the day :ahh: and still do to an extent :youngsabo:
but shyt won't last forever. We're doing a good job and delaying the inevitable, but best believe it is inevitable...

TYRONE GA!
they've all done it. Nintendo refused to move console gaming out of the stone age and Sony shoved Blu-Ray on the PS3 and drive the price sky high to a point people didn't wanna pay and Microsoft tried to go all-digital.

each of these companies got to the top or close to it and tried to dictate to the market the way things will be.

Agreed... But Microsoft was never at the top of the market... They capitalized on the ps3's price and still blew a 9 million lead

none of that was innovation. maybe Blu-Ray but it was ahead of its time at that point because the tech was brand new and very expensive. we paid a heavy premium for a tech that most games barely use today.

innovation is positive. innovation isn't saying all games are gonna be on a cartridge and we don't care about online multiplayer on our console. its not bootstrapping your high priced disc drive to your console so you can beat out a rival technology at the expense of gamers. its not forcing gamers to go all digital so you can get in on and control any transaction in gaming where money exchanges hands.

Xbox Live was innovation putting 4 controller poets on the N64 was innovation

Says who?
