One of my aunts was in the market for a new car and all the men— hubby, sons, brother, etc were giving opinions and saying what features the car needed…she walked away and sat by me and a different Unc and said “I don’t know why they’re talking about it; it’s not like any of them are paying for it”.

That right there was a lot of pent up frustration, but she wouldn’t tell her hubby or sons how pissed she was that her husband couldn’t buy or at least contribute to her new car purchase. THAT is old school. Women complain when the men can’t hear and bottle it up when the men are around. Saves the man’s ego and keeps him from lashing out or possibly running straight to another woman who will make him feel like he’s doing something big when he’s giving her scraps.
Your aunt was out of pocket. It's telling that this is the anecdote you fished out.

"My aunt had to bottle up her fury that the men in her life were giving her advice on something she was purchasing for her benefit. She resented the fact that they were not paying".

Marriage totally benefits men - when you choose correctly.
Ignore the type above.

Let me rephrase— my aunt, the breadwinner/provider for many years who was tired but couldn’t stop working because because she was the financial backbone, was annoyed that the men were telling her which model and features to get with no regard to the cost.

No, you said what was essential and true the first time around.
