The women are the worst at it. When they're talking with the white folks, they'll put on that valley girl vocal inflection but let a brother come around, they switch it to that monotone, strictly business voice.

That surprised me when I got a corporate job. At my first job, working for a local government, all the sisters were cool and acted pretty much like themselves, no matter who was around.

Regarding the men, I think a lot of employers just don't even bother hiring brothers who aren't soft spoken to a degree.
