This is the knee-jerk reaction to this topic and it's sad as hell. "If you don't like referring to yourself and your people as n***as, you must be white-washed"-- do you realize how ass backwards that is? :gucci: Even Malcolm X referred to us as the SO-CALLED negro... I guess he was white washed too?
:gucci: Whatchu talking about? If you don’t think we should be calling each other nikka that’s one thing. The fact that nikkas are really in here having a disingenuous ass discussion on if nikka and ****** are the same is another. That tells me ya’ll don’t understand how language works and don’t live in reality

It's "disingenuous" even though there's numerous examples in the thread of blacks referring to themselves as n***ers as late as the 70s :patrice:

It's "disingenuous" even though we get mad and anyone outside our race saying it :patrice:

It's "disingenuous" even though the only thing y'all can say is "they're just different" :patrice:

:russ: You fr g? Language changes and evolves. nikka and ****** have different connotations. Go to go a group of black people and say ****** instead of nikka every trip and see how they reacts.

That's how languages evolve. You do realize that ****** came from English-speaking cacs mispronouncing negro, right? And I'm sure you don't consider those two equivalent.

Y'all aren't talking about an evolution, it's a variation in how the word is said. People already explained this in the thread.
Trigger vs Trigga
Teacher vs Teacha
Number vs Numba
Etc.

Dropping "er" and replacing it with "a" is standard African American vernacular, n***er is no different aside from the "difference" we assigned it... And even with that, we still cling to the negative connotations and actions associated with it.

How often do black people start a negative comment on our people with "N***as _____ _____ _____"? Now how often do y'all hear POSITIVE comments concerning us start that same way?

When black men and women fight and/or kill each other, are they calling one another n***a out of love??? It's still a dead/hurt black person but it's "different" if they say it with an a, right??? :jbhmm:

:russ: I ain’t reading that. None of that shyt matters. You don’t get to decide this shyt. nikka and ****** undeniably have different colloquial meaning.

To add to your comment, whenever I view videos, read social media posts, or listen to other players when gaming online, the use of the term "nikka" by non-whites is always belligerently toned.

"Yo, that's nikka's dumb!"

"Stop, you silly nikka!"

"nikka, I just killed your ass"

"Got you, nikka!"

It's amusing how non-whites who defend themselves against the inclusion of "nikka" within their vernacular always cite how it's a "term of endearment," yet their use of it is always tinged with negativity. :francis:

We'll never be able to escape the negativity, it was well entrenched before we supposedly reclaimed the word. You can't even joke with Jewish people without them coming for your neck and here we are calling ourselves by the same word that oppressed us, got the world thinking its "cool", and we wonder why we're not taken seriously :martin: it's a matter of self pride

There was a time I used to call my brehs "nikka," but I stopped that over a decade ago, realizing the term was just another way of instilling self-hate in our treatment of one another. :francis:
