And I understand Protestants weren't exactly innocent...all I'm saying is, this new guy is going to try and unite all religions and people, which sounds good and all but I just question the true motives behind it. Now he's reaching out to Atheists now...c'mon breh

He's just trying to buddy up with the atheists because it's a good look. Looks like they're playing right into his hand too as expected.

People will co-sign whatever makes them feel the most comfortable. This is true with both believers and atheists.

There are verses like that in the Bible as well, it's just that they're either Old Testament verses, or they're NT verses that contradict other verses in the NT that claim faith alone is the key. Either way, it's funny to see all these Christians angry when all he said was to be less judgmental and to work together with others to do good. You'd think that would be an inoffensive message that everyone could accept, but I guess the idea that non-Christians could be good people who can do good is just unimaginable to these narrow-minded individuals who want to cling to faith alone as a sign of superiority.

I'm not religious at all, but if the stipulation was based on works/doing good and not faith/simple belief, there would be far fewer people in heaven... it would be more special than a faith-based heaven, imho. It's much easier to believe in something, to be an armchair devotee than to actually do real good in the world.

LOL I'm far from naive. But I'm curious on why the Pope is saying this. Is it because they realize that their former teachings were wrong. Or is that its all a fraud at the end of the day and no matter what is in the bible, if you are a good person it doesn't matter. Its just a weird message from them. Further proof that religion is a fraud perpetrated on human kind in order to gain control on the social minds of human beings. There is no order...and people are starting to see that the church is not the key to salvation. Or is this a ploy to get others to start seeing the church in a new light in order to gain new converts?

Not trying to sound like an a$$hole by any means but I have Atheist friends and I have friends who believe in a higher power (God, Allah, etc.) I dont care what you are or what you believe to be honest with you but at the same time I have to read more into this because all you have to do is "Do Good" and youre in heaven? So my mama dragged me to church for no reason?
