Above the fray.
he rarely hit them shyts when it was needed. dude could still get to the rack.. but he'd chuck up a 3 :scust:
Yeah, people watching the Nets in that era saw him bail out defenders by launching ill timed, ill advised jumpers.
Even when, and especially when he had the advantage on the matchup.

trades were just different back then i think. a lot less picks were moved in general back then so two 1st round picks was considered a lot.

i also think his value was low not just because he was having a rough season but because he was considered to have quit on the team. so people were questioning his heart/love of the game etc. (funny considering how much longer he went on to play for) so i guess it was considered a risk what you might get in return.

The Nets got 3 1st rounders just for letting the Nuggets sign K Mart that same year, there's absolutely no shot 2 low-mid 1st rounders was the best Toronto could do for a star like Vince

He quit on Toronto. They got what they could.

Carter was their fukking franchise player and a 5x consecutive All Star starter. He was one of the biggest stars in the league, there was absolute no chance that was all they could get for him. I think some of you are kinda underplaying what a huge, huge star VC was at the time, he led the all star ballot 4 times in 5 years before that trade happened. Any team that got him was gonna see a big boost in business on top of getting an in prime all star player.

Look at when Kawhi got traded, he was coming off an injury, had 100% quit on the team so had to be traded and the Spurs still at least got an in prime all star player in the deal in DeRozan.

What the Raptors got
Eric Williams - Decent at best role player who had actually been starting for the Nets at the time. This shouldn't be the best part of a trade deal for a star player lol
Aaron Williams - Basically a bench warmer, he was averaging less than 10 minutes a game. I assume this was thrown in to make the money line up cause damn near any second round pick could put up his numbers
Alonzo Mourning - Washed and had barely played at all for the Nets and when he did he was clearly far from his prime days. He had even retired previously due to his kidney issues. He also wanted nothing to do with Toronto and never even reported :mjlol:
2 1st round picks - 1 of these was from Philly, who while no longer a title contender was still considered a playoff team with a healthy Iverson so wasn't gonna be a lottery pick
1 was from the Nets themselves who were considered a contender to win the East at the time so once again not projected to go in the lottery

They gave up a franchise player 5x all star starter for trash. That's horrible. Even if his value was lower they needed to at least get a solid player somewhere in that deal.

First off, he was a disgruntled superstar.
Second, superstars period never bring back equal value.
Third, the average NBA player 20 years ago wasn't that good, which sensible fans keep trying to convey but Trapped In The 90s nikkas don't wanna hear it.

"The 2 draft picks turned into Joey Graham and the other was eventually sent to the Knicks (the pick ended up being Renaldo Balkman) as a sweetener in the Rose salary-dump trade."
The Vince Carter Dilemma.

Yeah they were non lottery picks and were never really expected to be lottery picks
Babcock's days in Toronto were numbered the second this trade went down God rest his soul

This shytty trade would get rejected in franchise mode in 2K back in the day.

Zo never reported to Toronto.
Didn't know that player could refuse to do that.

When VC got here, saw him play up close and could tell why they moved him. Exciting player, but always did defenders a favor by shooting that broke jumper with 12+ seconds on the shot clock, and NO bigs in the paint to get the rebound.
has nothing to do with why theey moved him lol
they simply moved him because he quit on the team

Nah, critics said the highlight time was over. And Toronto was done with him. They didn't want him around Bosh.

he quit on the team and the whole league knew it so the raptors were lowballed. it was still a horrendous trade though
i remember hearing it on the radio like it was yesterday, wondering who the fukk eric and aaron williams were

Just want to come in here and say vince is one of the most underrated stars ever. Too many think of him as just a dunker. Its too bad he never was able to be on a contender in his prime.
nah, he joined a Nets team that took the championship pistons to 7 (though Kenyon and maybe Kittles left) and got swept in the first round by a
Vince just isnt that dude
