The Chris Brown-Rihanna situation was messy all around. Before the infamous night, Rihanna already had a history of domestic violence. A few years earlier she broke a bottle over the head of one of her male relatives. Before Chris went crazy on her, she allegedly was hitting him while he was driving. I still think Chris overreacted and did a poor job of handling things but he made a poor choice in dating Rihanna because she's crazy.
