Yo real talk, Mick Foley was right behind Austin and Rock.

i think he was by 1999. Triple H started coming out to his new theme with Stephanie and his popularity was skyrocketing by that point.

I would rank them just solely off The Attitude Era

1. Austin
2. The Rock
3. Foley
4. Hunter
5. Taker

Not including Vince in any of these because he'd be defacto 2.
1.Austin
2.Taker
3.Foley
4.Rock
5.NAO

99
1.Austin
2.Rock
3.Taker
4.Mankind
5.X-Pac/Kane

Late 99-00
1.Rock
2.HHH
3.Foley
4.Chyna
5.Jericho

It's really crazy how much things changed in 99-00 period. But HHH's first big run as heel was horrendous. They tried everything to get him over and that shyt flopped. The Stephanie thing and Foley feud saved his ass big time, because for a while, he was struggling to get a reaction despite taking everyone out. Always thought Pac was a way bigger star from mid 99-late where they inexplicably turned him back to a heel and his career was never the same.

He was involved in so much, when you rewatch it you can see his involvement was huge, had stuff going on with Rock, Austin, Taker, Kane, Shawn, HHH and so many others, epic run.

Stone Cold from 98-99
Rock from 2000 onward
Foley
Chyna
HHH

The reason I put Chyna ahead of HHH is because she was way more mainstream than him.

Rock, austin, hhh were the top guys. I would even put Kurt angle above Foley

Mick was closer to Jericho dude was more of an intercontinental champion type

The taker match and rock throwing him a lifeline elevated him more than what he was

Rock and Foley damn near killed themselves in 99 trying to get that dude over.

Most Popular Men during the Attitude era:

1. Austin
2. Rock
3. Foley
4. Undertaker
5. HHH

Remember Foley led times man of the year in fan voting in 98’, but was DQ’d because they didn’t think he did enough.

I excluded Chyna but if I included her, she would be 5 and Hunter would be 6th. I’d take arguments on 3 and 4, but that’s it. That playboy cover was HUGE, best selling issue ever.

Even her 30 sec vice tv doc trailer got 100k+ plus views in 2 weeks on YouTube. Only a few other wrestling related “dark side of the ring” content has more views, and have been up for months

Haitch didn’t try to Bury Mick. He just resented that it was Mick that gave him his moment instead of Austin as planned. :yeshrug: Wasn’t there a story out there of Austin refusing to be the one to put him over at Summerslam, which lead to the triple threat match that took place?

Anyway, yeah. Mick was 3rd at WORST in terms of peak popularity back in 98-99. That HIAC match and his endearing attitude made it hard not to like dude.

Kurt Angle came later on in the era. DX was popular but not because of Haitch. When I was in h.s., everyone was fans of X-Pac, Hikkkenbottom and Klan dawg Jesse James with a few ass man fans.

Triple H as a solo guy was trash and a distasteful out of touch clown in blackface mimicking off the Rock's nutsack.

That cac didn't even have a memorable feud with Austin like Bret, Rock, Angle, RVD, Booker or Michael's. Let that shyt go.

Triple H was literally the champion at the time. I’m referring to the Cactus Jack angle, not his win over Mankind that Austin refused to give him

I hear that, but those two matches in the winter of 2000 basically solidified HHH as a legitimate main event threat and a credible champion.

Which is saying something given that HHH was trucking most every opponent from about May '99 up to then.

I could see Mick as 3rd or 4th, only person I could think of ahead of Mick in the pecking order is probably Taker.

The insinuation here is that Triple H is even further behind these four, and I’m all for it
Taker was out a large portion of the attitude era and he was getting stale.
