Yo Shohei, I'm really happy for you. Imma let you finish...but Aaron Judge had one of the greatest seasons of all time.

Wait, I’m confused. How is this metric different than the one they used to convince us that Mike Trout was having all-time monumental seasons?

I remember hearing Mike Trout was seriously in contention for being the GOAT - not one of them, but number 1 - and now we have a new metric and he's nowhere near the top.

:mjlol:

Not even a top 25 all time season.
Not even top 25 since the 1960s.

I tried to do a search on fangraphs and I'm not sure how accurate the Stat Muse list is.

A lot of the guys on the Stat Muse page don't jive with the original list posted in the thread by @King P

You right and I'll let you finish, but the general public don't give a fukk :mjlol:

Shohei the GOAT
I think I saw a post last week that Shohei Ohtani had the 8th best season of Barry Bonds' career.

Or something like that.

The people calling Ohtani The GOAT are damned fools.

ok, let's not use a stat like wrc+, trying to determine what is league "average" ballpark gets murky ...

South Central Los Angeles So Wut U Wanna Do??
Part of what made 1998 different was

1. Sosa and McGwire ushered in the offensive explosion that brought baseball back from the strike 4 years earlier.
2. Sosa was much more media-friendly than Judge or Ohtani. More than McGwire. But at least McGwire was willing to endure it.
3. Sosa and McGwire were chasing the record.

As great as Ohtani and Judge were this year, they weren't chasing anything. And neither really has the personality of Sosa. Or even the cartoonish muscles of McGwire...which could have brought some attention in the way of a superhero comparison or something.

Baseball is doing great. But it could use a Jose Lima. RIP.
Doesn’t have to be about them chasing something…this is a new world where everyday people with bricks for a personality are becoming instantly famous…there’s gotta be some type of hilarious storyline with teaming them up and creating a campaign for Nike or Gatorade or some shyt to go along with the playoffs :yeshrug:

Judge is a giant oaf with no personality and an unattractive wife. He’s just not compelling enough to resonate with a wider audience. If he has a marketing team, they aren’t hitting their weight. And MLB doesn’t feel the need to market their players.

Incredible, relatively invisible season.
