Could be a device or frequency synthesizer that is brute forcing common radio signals to open the car. It's possible that they are using just one radio signal too and the manufacturers know more than they let on.

Here's the thing, getting your car broken into is bad regardless of whether you keep anything of value in it.

Most people keep their insurance and registration in the car right? You don't carry that around everywhere…….There are criminals breaking into cars specifically to take that information for identity theft. I've seen it happen.
