Yup pretty much. That group you were in wasn't small either....

I don't remember why they broke up exactly but that album tanking bad after chasing the mainstream probably was a KO. They all kind of went their own ways. J Ro I think is overseas or maybe it's E-Swift, Tash tried to do a solo thing but I haven't seen him do shows in a while...damn shame. They were a DOPE group.
arent they back together? they were working on a collaboration album with the Beatnuts called Liknuts lol...they dropped like 2 songs but nothing has materialized since.

Which is why I try to tell posters around here sometimes you have to live in the moment to understand why things went the way they did.

Song would be BIG if it came out today but at the time it was for sure the wrong move :yeshrug:

That's a fact. Can't be mad at the young brehs who didn't live through it though. I just gotta play the :flabbynsick: role and bring some insight into these types of convos.

I swear the only group rumored to get back together more than The Pharcyde, is Tha Likz. I am not even sure if they are back or not. That would be good news if true. They have a good live show too.

The beatnuts/Likz thing was bad from the jump, gotta hit both groups with 3 :snoop: :snoop: :snoop:

Oh I forgot to add this is also right after they went from Tha Alkaholikz to 'Tha Likz' because it was more friendly on the shelves/corporations/parents. Also seen as a 'sell out' type move.

if you ask a person who's a fan of all kinds of different hip hop, more than likely they head would be noddin' to the beat

I truly fukks with all types of hip hop breh, but as a real Alkaholic's fan, back then I didn't wanna hear this type of shyt from them. The shyt sounds fresh today though.

Even while posting the joints I did, I had to come to grips with the fact that the Neptunes record was sonically light years ahead of the joints I posted, but those songs are what gave the Alkaholics their name and fanbase.

yeah my backpacker homies were offended by the name change/style switch...we all bought that album and they all traded it in the next day and i was bumping that shyt all summer...still bump a couple joints on there esp Run Wild.

oh i know, i was like that with a lot of shyt too as times were changin' too. yeah, at the time this song was like the ultimate "what the fukk moment" because it was a complete turn around from their previous shyt, lol

even as a top notch neptunes beat, for tha liks it was a "what the fukk?" moment

but by today's standards it's miles ahead if all this shyt out there now

Its a shame they broke up after this album. That crab in the barrel some hip hop fans have is a disease.

I wouldn't say it was a crabs in a barrel type of thing, breh. You gotta remember, in the early 90s we didn't give a fukk about record sales and all of that bullshyt. We wanted our favorite artists to make the same dope shyt that we loved them for. The challenge was continuing to up the anti while remaining true to the music. Once you made an obvious move for the pop charts, that was like signing your own death certificate in hip hop. That mentality didn't change until Puff and Jay-Z came in the picture.
