It is a means to insult us while trying to hide under the cover of cosplaying as one of us. All ethnicities attempt to do it to us, for the most part. It is one of the reasons why X is a cesspool of anti-Black Americaness.

The other reason I surmise is that they want to influence us to support their issues at the detriment of our own, by acting like they are one of us who already supports the issues of others. It explains why you can see so many who have no empathy for Black Americans while claiming they are Black American. You can easily see it when they show so much empathy for the economic and political circumstances of non-Black Americans, but handwave, downplay, and outright ignore over and over again the economic issues of Black Americans.

Oh, and you can also get a glimpse of who they are, when they are quick to run to the defense of others doing the cosplaying as a Black American.
