I tried doing this years ago with Time Warner. I was on the phone with them for like 4 hours trying to get it to work. I'm 99% sure they purposely didn't activate it for me (had to call and give them the Mac address of the Modem). They kept blaming it on me, first saying I bought a router instead (like I'm a fukking idiot), then by saying that it was because I had a Mac (Apple), for which I tried to explain to them that it had nothing to do with it. Like the kind of CPU I had really factored in to them activating a damn modem.
After like 4 hours, I just said fukk it and told them to re-activate the old modem back up. Guess what? Worked instantly. But it was my CPU's fault
