This Westside Gunn joint called Versace came on this morning and I had to do a double take at the beat. Did this fool just flip the Clark Sisters :ohhh:?! Mind you the shyt goes hard and I thought it was an ingenious sample but it had me wondering how he managed to get it cleared. It was just surreal hearing "ayyooo doot, doot, doot, doot" :russ: weave in and out between the Clark Sisters harmonizing "bloooood of the lamb!"

Freddie Gibbs/Alchemist also flipped some gospel joint for Babies and Fools and I was like damn! Kanye does a lot it as well. Seems to be happening more frequently. Generally I wonder what these gospel artists think when rappers use their stuff, or if they even own the masters to care. Maybe that check makes all well with the lord:lawd:.

Yea sure, I get it. It's just so off brand. Especially if you're still kinda active like The Clark Sisters. These aren't samples being pulled from 19th century hymnals lmao.

Off brand? lol

Nah, the way Bad Boy followed by the whole New York used to pimp the Harlem Boys Choir was the worse!

How is gospel music off brand? Gospel samples are perfect to use for rap. Gospel is just soul/R&B about God

Off brand for the gospel artist. Don't get me wrong, it almost always works well. Hell something like Lord Knows is easily top 3 Drake. Sonically it makes perfect sense. I just mean from an image perspective, how does someone singing about "the lordt" reconcile their music with the debauchery of rap lmao. I'm not mad at it though.

Those gospel artists don’t care. If a rapper asked them for a feature they’d do that too. Also getting a check don’t hurt either
