By the way, as someone who can actually play instruments and understand the music on a technical level, how much does it improve your appreciation of the genre? Like, I can identify very basic shyt like riffing, solos, drums, bass, pacing, distortion, etc. But once you get into different time signatures and guitar tones/chords, I'm fukking lost. It seems like you HAVE to play instruments before you can understand the genre on that level.

Hmmm, i guess after a certain point you don't think about it like ohhh, heres this note and this time signature and x and y. You start to think of it on a more.... conceptual level where you can identify things past the chaos and see how the patterns underneath come together to make something greater and more intelligent than the sum of its parts. You see the music as a 'piece' rather than a song. Does that make sense?
