Why didn't they just let Bret lose beforehand they knew him and Shawn had heat they aint have no one to transition title to him

What i don't understand is how they never let Austin get his win over Bret if they knew Bret was leaving.

Always stubbornness on Vince's part. Bret was ready to lose the title to anyone besides Shawn before Survivor Series but Vince wanted it to be to HBK and nobody else and thought that Bret would eventually give in.

Vince gave Bret one of the most lopsided contracts ever in WWF history. Dude was making all that bread and gave him control over his character if they ever decided to mutually sever the contract.

It was one of the dumbest things Vince has ever done but also one of the smartest, because had he never given that contract he would have never been able to screw Bret and become the character he became.

That whole situation is crazy as fukk and something that Bret, HBK, VINCE, HHH and Hebner all need to sit down and talk about on a DVD. I want everyone who was in the know to speak on this TOGETHER on camera, shyt would he GOAT.

I always heard Bret would even have lost to Michaels before or after in the US. He just didn't want to lose to dude in his home country on his way out the door.

Like you said, everything happens for a reason. This is probably the real catalyst to every major event of the first two years of the Attitude Era. Just think of the effect if Hart stays:

- Bret stays, doesn't get the Goldberg injury that completely fukked him up. Stays around and evolves into the Attitude Era but doesn't quite fit in.
- Owen probably doesn't do the stunt or at the very least, Bret makes sure everything is done right
- Michaels probably doesn't fight Taker at RR and messes his back up. Probably continues spiraling deeper down the drug hole. Also wouldn't have relinquished his backstage pull.
- Austin's rise possibly delayed by months
- HHH doesn't break out into a leadership role (or at least it's delayed) until DX is broken up and he feuds with Michaels.

I don't watch anymore but I grew up a huge fan. He and Bret Hart were my favs. I didn't know he got the boot like that, what happened and why?

I dont see how WCW couldn't put the WWF out its misery I remember reading meltzer article on the screwjob and think the WWF was done how could the wrestlers even trust Vince. Would've been crazy if cats like Taker, Owen and Foley would've jetted same time Bret did. Rick Rude was the realest he saw how dirty they did Bret and buried the WWF. WCW had a dream team roster and pretty much had 1st and Goal at the 5 and settled for field goal.

Looking back WWF had nothing as far as a roster going back then I see why I stopped watching until Tyson came in.
They had a pretty good roster, i think it was just that a lot of them hadn't found themselves yet.

Whats kinda surprising to me is how much of a top guy Sid was made to be and then one day he's just gone
