I never got it, maybe it's an island thing but it was just something my dad always told me. It's just something you do because an elder said it (kinda like tradition). I guess it's something to do with having a crazy, emotional woman preparing your food. I've heard about one guy killing his girlfriend because she spat in his food after some argument (where I used to live).
