My family has pretty much always used a fake tree. My mom and stepdad did a real tree once when they first got their new house, but Mom was like never again after that.

Fake 12 footer, with built in flip flop lights, and covered in fake snow. My cat and daughter love it. My girl no longer has to yell at me to come adjust the lights a smidgen 27,000 times. Our cat just likes to hide in the base with only her eyes and ears sticking out, judging us mercilessly.

Edit: our second tree is an 8 footer with built in lights as well, it’s our decoy since our kid likes to snatch all the decorations off the big one.

Used to buy real when there was a farm about 20 minutes away. $50 for a. 8 footer. They closed and not the same tree is 125+ on the lost around town. Got a nice fake one for $100 and called it a day

I bought real trees every year until last year. Once I started paying $75 - $100 for a tree, I started researching fake ones. I do miss the smell, though.

I never had a tree as an adult. If I were to get one it would be a real one. We always had real ones growing up, and I don’t like synthetic shít. And yeah the smell of a real tree was nice
