for selling $60 of items to be a loss to the shopkeeper at the amount of $60

the shopkeeper must have paid double to stock the item ($120)

for giving $40 of change back to be a loss to the shopkeeper

... the money paid had to be counterfeit

coli dumb as shyt

$200

because he took $100 cash then came back and bought $60 of goods and got $40 in change from you. In total you lost $100 cash and another $100 in lost stock

If it's money lost without including the items then the answer is $40. If it's money lost including the merchandise monies then it's $140 total lost.

It could be a trick question where items aren't consider money thus u don't include them in the math

Edit: if u write it t as a math variable using only the money from the $100 then the answer is $80.

U lose $100 so u have -100. He comes in and gives u 60 so now you're at -40 then u give him 40 back so u lose another 40 which puts u at -80

Cash | Income down $100 (theft)
Cash | Revenue/Income up $60 (sale)
Inventory | Cost of Goods Sold/Income down $60 (sale)

$40 lost in cash

Net income down $100

You lost $100 period but $40 in cash through these transactions as he essentially ended up "stealing" inventory. You just swapped out the $60 for in cash for $60 in merch.

$200

because he stole $100 cash from the store then came back and bought took $60 of goods and got $40 in change from the store . In total the store lost $100 cash (the first time) and another $60 in goods and $40 in cash (second time). Therefore, the shop keeper lost $200
