The problem is that you're double counting the loss of the $60. You count it once when he takes the cash, not when he exchanges the cash for goods.

Imagine you only had 100 dollars in the register and 100 dollars worth of goods so your total net is 200

He steals 100 from the register now your total net is 100 in goods.

He comes back and gives you 100 dollars in exchange for $60 of goods
Now you have 100 in the register and 40 dollars worth of goods

You give him 40 dollars back in change and now you have 60 in the register and 40 worth of goods. Your total net now is 100

200-100 = 100

It doesn't matter where he spends the money cause you saint getting money for free or taking money for free a loss is a loss

How much money have you lost?

Answer is 200

100 for the initial lost
60 for the merchandise
40 for the change

You do realize that had you not had the money stolen, it would be +100 ur pocket, + 60 from selling to someone else and + 40 for the change you would keep. Though you gained that 60 back, it is still a lost because your profit would have been 160 + the 40 dollar change. some of yall nikkas dumb.
