The easiest way to think about it for y'all idiots who have trouble understanding simple math is to break it up in phases....

Phase 1: Thief steal $100. Shop owner is now -100
Phase 2: Thief gives comes back to buy stuff and gives the shop owner the $100 back. Shop owner is back to 0
Phase 3: Thief leaves with $60 worth of merchandise and $40 change. Shop owner is back to -100

I'm trying my hardest to see how that's not clear, but I can't
This, by the 60 of goods wouldn't cost the merchant 60, they only cost him say 40. So he was ROBBED of 80,, even though he could have sold it and got 100, you see? Cause he can replace the goods for less than the sales price. He stole $40 cash, $30 in goods and $30 via the opportunity to sell the goods for more... But that's real technical

Lol at the people looking at it from the thief's perspective. The thief only leaves with $40 cash and $60 worth of goods.
The shopkeeper loses that $100 and approx $60 worth of goods he spent purchasing the product which he already owns in the first place.

The question is how much money did the shopkeeper lose, not how much money did the thief gain.

$200

because he stole $100 cash from the store then came back and bought took $60 of goods and got $40 in change from the store . In total the store lost $100 cash (the first time) and another $60 in goods and $40 in cash (second time). Therefore, the shop keeper lost $200

:mjlol:at these responses.

The 'American' Education system y'all:scust:

:snoop:

This idiot even crossed out the word "bought" in his explanation when it's at the very center of the math :laff: :wow:

What would be the total dollar amount lost if the thief stole $100, then stole $60 worth of merchandise?

You're saying that if I go into a store and buy something for $60 the store loses $60

In case anyone is wondering, my answer is $0, since among the goods the thief stole was a cursed monkey's paw, destined to bring misfortune on all those who possess it.

Because it's his cash (the shopkeepers), he's paying with his own money for a product he already owns :why:

What would be the total dollar amount lost if the thief stole $100, then stole $60 worth of merchandise?

If the thief stole $100 and then stole $60 worth of merchandise it would be the same loss of $160.

You run a shop and someone came in and stole $100 without your attention.

The person came back and used the same money to buy $60 worth of items from your shop and you gave him a change of $40.

How much money have you lost?

Explain your answer so we know you didn't do ya googles. :patrice:

You lost $200

The initial amount stolen , The merchandise lost The change given to said person
(-100) + (-60) + (-40) = -200
