Nah 7 pounds did 70 million..where did you get your numbers from?

Ahh..I though we were talkin domestic numbers..
great great movie btw![]()

Seven pounds did 168 million and MIB3 crushed the buildings
Will smith ain't never flopping at the movies fukk outta here
He ain't at no MUTHAfukkIN crossroads
Seven Pounds was considered a box office dissappointment when you compare it to his previous numbers. Dude took 4 years off and came back with a sequel to a franchise that didnt think was needed.
He's been backing out of risky flicks too (Recall he was suppose to do Django Unchained)

My point is that its not 1997 anymore and I think Will still kinda sees the industry as an actor-drawn business which influences the box office when its probably more about franchises with built in audience and a fragmented pop culture scene where success is more niche. So
What is your point ?
After earth doing 100 million first weekend next year
Will can do what he wants he can take 10 years off and still be hot
Mib 3 helped sony pics to its best year for 2012

Will's still known enough that people may watch a film but there's been dissapointments from a critical standpoint and he's not the main spotlight in a summer vs say a comic book or YA movie.
And I think he's still concious of keeping a clean image or a good guy image when if anything his staying power would be influenced in going outside of his comfort zone (Even Cruise and Denzel played bad guys, even Jamie Foxx is gonna do the same). Django unchained for all its controversy at least would have been interesting for him. But I think Will is still uneasy about doing risky stuff even though it would help him as an actor and give him even more range than say Ali or a Pursuit of Happyness type movie where he was not playing himself but still retain a screen presence.
Aside from that I dont know if an M. Night movie is gonna crack 100 mil first 2 days and this is a movie that's really gonna test if Will still has it (and I'm surprised you're imply Sony had its best year ever in 2012)
"Sony pictures"

Still don't get the point you trying to make will smith can pick any role he wants to if he wants that Oscar he got his whole life to get it studios will always thro money at will because even seven pounds flopped compared to his standard it still made money look at Tom cruise and jaime fox FLOPS NOT ONLY DID THEY FLOP THEY LOST MONEY!!!
That article is crediting Skyfall more than MIB.
Point I'm trying to make is he's still very conservative in choosing his roles because he's worried about the box office and Im saying in 2012 that doesnt really matter as much as it once did or as much being diverse does or at least consistent in progression does.
At his age he should just go for a mix of ranged roles. You see people like Jamie, they've made flops but they've moved up and made interesting roles along the way (and foxx got that Oscar along the way). Will had only one flop and didnt know what to do with it, he just backed off for 4 years trying to figure how to still compete in a film market where Young Adult books and Comic books not leading actors were the draw..and he came back with Men in Black 3. Fine it did money, but as a Will Smith fan I would have liked to see him take the genuine risks that Foxx and Washington have taken. Like Foxx and Cruise are still making movies in spite of their flops (In TC's case he survived being fired from a studio and in Foxx's case he's doing interesting controversial popcorn flicks and big comic book movies now)
That's what goes back to the basis of my original point: The Entertainment industry has changed and its not about first week sales and opening box office numbers anymore and even if it is, what's popular has changed and I think Will has been spending the past 4 years on the low a little uncertain of which direction to go. I mean Django Unchained role was the first role he turned down (Well that and backing off the Oldboy remake but that's a whole nother story) which had the bloggers and insiders wondering if he would ever truly embrace a controversial role or still play it safe.
