Considering like half the games on ps4/xbox one are also on ps3/360 and keep that in mind when theyre designed its not surprising.

This gen just feels like last gen with an updated graphics card.

Destiny is a first person shooting game with RPG elements mixed in the game you stupid fukk. Witcher 3 is an rpg style game and it's one of the best games out. Most sandbox games like GTA and Sleeping Dogs were influenced by rpgs with the open world style of play.
