That's what makes this loss even worse for them.

They need these wins early in the series so they're not fighting uphill later on. The longer the series goes on the more it'll favor the deeper team. Needless to say, Game 2 is a must win, but they also gotta take Game 3 too to regain the mental edge. If they can win the next two, they can afford to go back to MSG at worst 2-2.

I think if the Knicks get it to game 7 they won’t lose that game but I’m not sure they make it to game 7 now
